Percentage change is (new − old) ÷ old × 100. A positive result is a rise, a negative one a fall — useful for price moves, marks, salary, or any before-and-after pair.
The old value is the base, so a rise from 100 to 150 (+50%) and a fall from 150 to 100 (−33%) are not mirror images. Order the two numbers deliberately.
