BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared, and the tool labels the result against the common underweight, normal, overweight, and obese ranges. It is a quick population-level screen, not a diagnosis.
The ratio does not distinguish muscle from fat and ignores age, sex, and body composition, so athletes and older adults are often mislabelled. Treat it as one rough indicator, not medical advice.
